A young servant girl leads you to a wooden door located in one of the towers at Cair Paravel. She knocks gently, and respectfully waits for an answer. After a moment, and no answer, she knocks again, this time a bit louder.
"Yes? Come in, come in," a voice calls from the inside. The girl opens the door and stands to the side respectfully.
"She'll take care of everything from here," she says with a slight curtsey.
After you walk into the room, she shuts the door. All along the walls are shelves stuffed full of books and scrolls. Scattered upon the floor and upon various tables throughout the room are even more books and scrolls with pieces of parchment. Near a window is a much larger table and, seated in a chair, an older woman.
She turns in her chair to see who it is. Once she sees you, she gets up quickly. Her silver white hair has been done up in a very clumsy bun with several strands falling out of it. Se's dressed in a simple brown robe that has very large sleeves and reaches to the floor.
"Oh! You must be the visitor that Queen Lucy told me about," she says in an excited voice. "Please, have a seat." She gestures towards the chair in which she was just sitting.
After you've been seated, she takes from the table some glasses and places them upon the bridge of her nose.
"Now, you've een sent here to learn about the history of Narnia. Well, they sent you to the right person. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Skyla Artha, and I am the offical Narnian Loremaster as set in place by the High King Peter himself. I have studied all the great stories, legends, and traditions. Of course this has taken me many years to research and learn. I do not expect you to know all of this within in the first day. Oh, no, this will take several days.
"So, where shall I begin? Oh yes, you should probably have a quill and parchment so you can take down notes." She reaches across you and digs around on the desk until she finds a wrinkled piece of parchment and a quill with a half-empty inkwell.
"There you go. Now you can write down anything you don't want to forget. Now, shall we start at the beginning?" As she begins to speak, she starts to pace around the room.
"Long ago, before the beginning of time, Aslan created this world. We know this from the records of King Frank the First. He was the first king of Narnia, you know. He was there with four other people from....well....from Another World. Let's see now..." She stops pacing at this point and closes her eyes. "There was the Lord Digory and the Lady Polly along with some person named Uncle Andrew." Here she opens her eyes again and looks right at you."
"We don't know much about that last fellow. According to some records left by King Frank, Uncle Andrew had made some rings that had brought them here, but that ws something that he had learned from Lord Digory. No one really knows if that is true or not.
"Now, the last person to be present during the creation of Narnia was Jadis. Ah, I see you do not recognize that name, yet I am sure you have heard of her for later she will be known as the White Witch. Yes, you know that name. I thought you might have. Apparently she was the last queen in her own world, but she destroyed it or something like that.
"So, yes, Aslan created Narnia. Of course, at this time he picked which beastest were to be Talking Beasts. So, that's how Talking Beasts came about.
"Now, Aslan knew that Jadis was evil and that she needed to be stopped. It isn't said exactly why, but Lord Digory and the Lady Polly were sent to fetch a special apple that would keep her far away from Narnia. It was here that Aslan created the first flying horse from a normal horse. His name was Fedge. Well, that was his new name. His original name was Raspberry or Strawberry, or some sort of fruit like that.
"Not much is known about the long journey to and from the place they were told to go. All that we know now is that they met Jadis there and she tempted Lord Digory to do something.
"So, after the apple was returned and the tree planted, the coronation of King Frank and Queen Helen took place. Ah, what a celebration that was..." Skyla sighs as she stares off into space. After a moment, she shakes herself out of the daze.
"By the Lion!" She exclaims as she looks outside the window where the sun was beginning to disappear behind the trees. "I've kept you much longer then I was going to. Well, come back tomorrow and I'll tell you about when the Kings and Queens came into Narnia..."
